Kia ora Common Property
Common Property are a huge part of Aotearoa’s modern organics history (pre-colonisation, it was all organic..). Founded in Te Horo in the 1970s, its one of our oldest commercial and certified organic horticultural producers - Common Property eventually started the first Commonsense Organics shop in Wellington, when they needed a place to sell their produce. It’s taken many forms over the years, but is currently co-operatively run by a group of organics aligned businesses - producing staple vege, seedlings, microgreens, salad, strawberries and more.
Jack from Ahoaho first worked for Sean at Common Property as a teenager - long afternoons hoeing weeds acres of cabbages by hand. So it’s now nice to be sourcing some of the heartier staples from an organic farm long history just down the road from Ōtaki, and a farm with a long personal connection to Jack! Jack himself will be harvesting from Common Property for Ōtak Vege Bags. You can read a bit more about Common Property here.
This week we have

Fennel and Mesculun Salad
We love Fennel, but understand its aniseed taste can be polarising!
For those that do like the aniseed-y flavour, I love roasted fennel. I roast is by cutting off the leafy fronds, slicing it in half and then each half into quarters. A favourite salad is roasted fennel, apple/pear, mesculun mix, toasted seeds, maybe some couscous and a citrus-y dressing. A healthy dose of feta, parmesan or other cheese never goes amiss either.
Ka kite ano,
